The three day training extravaganza is over. After hours of pain, anguish, and butt ache my confidence in our ability to get across the country is boosted. In succession, we completed a 30 mile, 40 mile, and 90 mile day. Yesterday was our first big mile day and it was a grand success.
We started at my house in Wallingford, CT and made our way down the shoreline on route 1 south. This trip brought us on many gorgeous roads and a couple not so gorgeous. We cycled through, New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, New Rochele, The Bronx, and Manhattan to name a few. It took us approximately 7 hours including stops and although exhausted at the end, it was an important training barrier to overcome before attempting continuous high mileage days.
There were several highlights of the trip. To name a few, Pete stayed on his bike the whole ride. Our lunch at subway was delicious. We didn't get extremely lost at any point. My friends in Manhattan let us sleep on their couch. We didn't get hit by any cars, and the one car that almost hit us I was able to backhand.

The departure date is still set. November 2nd here we come!
