DONKEY!

The before photos!

I am sitting here in the Gainesville, FL library after several successful days of riding. Sunday we drove down to Richmond Virginia with my father to get on a train. He left for a marathon hiking trip and we took the redeye Amtrak down to Jacksonville, Florida.

Our bikes safely boxed, we slept through the night and left Jacksonville at 7am for St. Augustine. At this historic city we met several street dwellers and a particularly noteworthy English trainjumper named Puke because of a poorly placed facial tattoo. I was even able to fix the brakes on a homeless man’s bike. Then we crossed the Intercoastal Waterway to spend the night at the Anastasia State Park. Our total mileage for the day was 70.

The next morning we stopped at the beach for the cheesy “ocean to ocean” bike shot. We have touched the Atlantic. Now we need to get to the Pacific. After this cheesy shot we did an easy 48 miles to Palaniuk and spent the night at a decrepit but nice campsite called St. John’s Campsite. I even got a shower.

Today we are pushing for an even 100. We have about 30 miles left to go so I am off. However, before I go the noteworthy story of the day was our interaction with the traveling mobile home. This morning a wide load mobile home almost ran us off the road. There seems to be a lot of them down here. New Orleans here we come. Check out the photos.
